Sofia, November 21 (BTA) - A report on Bulgarian agriculture shows that it grew by 8.9 per cent in 2017 with gross value added in the sector of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries standing at 4.1 billion leva at current prices. The report was adopted by the government at its weekly meeting Wednesday.

Trade in farm produce remains responsible for much of Bulgaria's trade surplus.

Close to 1.7 billion leva in payments were authorized in 2017 under the schemes for direct payments and transitional national aid (from the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund and the national budget). A total of 487.9 million leva were paid out in 2017 under the Rural Development Programme.

State aid to farmers provided in 2017 totalled 250.8 million leva, the report shows. LI/LN/
