site.btaRoudozem-Xanthi Border Crossing Expected to Open in 2020

December 4 (BTA) - At a meeting in
Xanthi on Tuesday, the Joint Monitoring Committee of the
Interreg V-A Greece-Bulgaria Cooperation Programme 2014-2020
discussed strategic bilateral projects between the two
countries, Haskovo's regional administration said in a press
release. The project for a new border checkpoint at
Roudozem-Xanthi is considered a priority and is expected to be
completed in 2020.

The meeting was chaired by Bulgaria's Deputy Minister of
Regional Development and Public Works Denitsa Nikolova and
Greece's Deputy Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism
Stathis Giannakidis.

On the meeting's agenda was the progress made in the projects
under the Interreg V-A Greece-Bulgaria Programme and the
strategic projects for the construction of the Roudozem-Xanthi
border control checkpoint, the approaches to it and protection
against floods in the cross-border region.

The Joint Monitoring Committee approved the conditions for a
call for projects for small- and medium-sized enterprises
wishing to develop their capacity in the cross-border region and
 to contribute to economic growth and employment. The call is
worth a total of 10 million euro, and each company will receive
up to 200,000 euro of funding, with 35 per cent co-funding by
the beneficiaries. A project can be worth up to 600,000 euro.
