site.btaNational Ombudsman Reports on Four Years in Office

August 30 (BTA)-  A total of 122,199 people have
approached National Ombudsman Maya Manolova for assistance in
the four years since she has been in office, from October 20,
2015 to date, Manolova's report shows. There were 45,016
petitions and alerts. The five most common petitions concerned
consumer rights (11,291 petitions), social rights (6,360
petitions), basic rights and freedoms (5,858), ownership rights
(4,584 petitions) and enforcement proceedings (3,318 petitions).
 

Work has been completed on 43,569 petitions and alerts. A total
of 5,113 recommendations were made to government and municipal
authorities, half of which have been carried out.

Manolova made 175 working visits in Bulgaria and abroad.

The Ombudsman made numerous recommendations about statutory
amendments.

The institution of the National Ombudsman has received the
highest status of performance in compliance with the UN Paris
Principles relating to the Status of National Institutions.
