Socialist Party to Elect Leader in
Direct Vote, Approves
Election Rules
Sofia, December 14 (BTA) - The leadership of the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) Saturday approved rules for direct election of a party leader on April 26, 2020, said the BSP press office. For the first time the socialist leader will be elected in a direct vote by all party members, or some 100,000 people.
The winner in the elections will have to garner 50 per cent plus one of the votes. If nobody gets as many votes, a second round of voting will be held on May 3, 2020.
The party leadership also approved the composition of a party election commission. It will be chaired by Emil Voynov, who is a member of the Central Election Commission.
The Movement for Rights and Freedoms, which is the third biggest party in Parliament, will elect its leader the same day. LN/
