site.btaPM Borissov: We Are Investing to Make Bulgaria Key Player in Europe's Gas Distribution

March 6 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov on Friday inspected the construction of a gas compressor station in the village of Rassovo, Northwestern Bulgaria, which will be part of the Balkan Stream pipeline. "We are making very good investments in Bulgaria's future as a key player in the distribution and transmission of natural gas in Europe," Borissov said. He said that the gas compressor stations in Rassovo and near Provadia, Northeastern Bulgaria, will boost the capacity of Balkan Stream to 20 billion cu m. According to him, the interconnector between Bulgaria and Greece will help the diversification of gas deliveries to Serbia, Hungary, and Austria.

The compressor stations in Rassovo and Nova Provadia will increase pressure along the Balkan Stream pipeline from the Turkish-Bulgarian and the Bulgaria-Serbian border and will provide the infrastructure necessary for the implementation of the concept for a European gas hub Balkan.

Currently, 120 workers are at work in the region of the village of Rassovo. The expansion of Bulgaria's gas infrastructure will enhance safety of natural gas deliveries and will boost competition. RI/PP
