Ruse, on the Danube, August 26 (BTA) - The 60th edition of the March Music Days International Festival will take place in Ruse between September 17 and October 3 in compliance with all anti-COVID-19 measures, Ruse Mayor Pencho Millov told a news briefing on Thursday.

The jubilee edition which has been postponed three times because of the coronavirus epidemic will be dedicated to the festival founders Iliya Temkov, Sasha Popov and Mihail Kutev. Milkov said that the preparations for the festival have taken place in line with the measures enforced by the health authorities for concert halls to be full at 50 per cent of their capacity.

Festival Director Iva Chavdarova said that the number of international participants in the jubilee edition has been reduced in order to curb coronavirus risk. Over 450 artists have been invited to participate in the festival from Bulgaria, France, Russia, Germany, Israel, Slovenia, Italy and Korea,
The programme features five orchestra and choir concerts, eight ensemble programmes, an opera production, two programmes of the March Music Days Junior and two jazz concerts.

The festival will open on September 17 with a concert of the Ruse Philharmonic and French cellist Aurelien Pascal under the baton of Emil Tabakov. The opera Mefistofele will be performed by the Ruse opera. The Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mark Kadin and the Sofia Philharmonic under the baton of Nayden Todorov will give concerts. International performers include Lucas Debargue, Sharon Kam, Elena Bashkirova, Sergei Redkin, Kai Schumacher and etc. On September 26 Svetlin Roussev and Yeol Eum Son will perform in a challenge for the audience ten encores. After a 16-year long hiatus, opera singer Krassimira Stoyanova returns to the festival in Ruse. VE/PP
