September 12 (BTA) - The National Revenue Agency (NRA) Sunday said in a press release that it is exercising "total tax compliance control" of the trade in fuels, by monitoring the movement "of every litre of fuel that leaves tax warehouses and reaches filling stations for sale to end users".

In the past two weeks NRA fiscal control teams performed monitoring at the exit points of 26 tax warehouses and checked more than 4,500 tank trucks which carry fuels to filling stations nationwide. The inspectors analysed the level of risk of each recipient of fuel with specialized software. The tank lorries carrying fuel to merchant assessed as posing a risk were sealed and monitored until the vehicles were unloaded at their end destination. Preliminary data show that the quantity of fuels sold during the first two weeks of the campaign was 15 per cent higher than a similar earlier period.

NRA says that the heightened control will continue in the next two weeks and will mainly target filling stations.

The press release quotes NRA Executive Director Roumen Spetsov as saying that the checks seek to avert speculative sales of fuels, unfair competition and tax evasion. He said that the campaign is met with understanding by the trade association of fuel merchants and that the benefits will be not just for the state budget but for the general public as well. ZH//
