Education Minister Denkov:
36% of Teachers Vaccinated,
20% Have Had COVID-19

Sofia, October 19 (BTA) - To date, 36 per cent of teachers in Bulgaria are vaccinated and some 20 per cent have had the infection. The problem is that some do not have the respective document established by a PCR test, so there will be additional talks with the Health Ministry to prove their recovery from the disease with an antibody test, caretaker Education and Science Minister Nikolai Denkov said on bTV Tuesday. More teachersare expected to get vaccinated voluntarily, as the alternative would be to test them regularly, so they can enter school, Denkov added.

He noted that the "green" certificate was to be introduced on the initiative of the Health Ministry because the current situation in some places in Bulgaria was critical. It is yet to be decided whether the "green" certificate will become mandatory in the education sysmen, but if that is the case, then the Education Ministry will request for at least a month to allow for teachers to get the jab, Denkov explained.

Taking a question about any possible outflow of teachers due to the introduction of a "green" certificate mandate, Denkov said they could resort to the option of remote teaching from home, but that would not be preferred as an option.

Another information campaign aimed at over 3,000 teachers is being launched today, the Minister added.

To date, the largest number of quarantined teachers have been established in Vidin (3.57 per cent). Quarantined students there number 3.06 per cent, in Pleven they are 0.46 per cent and in Kurdjali even less - 0.37 per cent. The situation in kindergartens is much better, for quarantined groups there are tenfold less than the number of classes in school, the Education Minister said./DT/BR
