site.btaStranded Bulk Carrier Towed Away, No Risk of Marine Pollution, Environment Ministry Says

October 26 (BTA) - The stranded bulk carrier Vera Su has
been towed away from the Kamen Bryag cliffs on the Bulgarian
Black Sea coast, thus eliminating the risk of contaminating
seawater near the Yailata protected area, the Ministry of
Environment and Water said on Tuesday. There is no threat for
local people's health and livelihood, the authorities argued.

The Panamanian-flagged bulk carrier Vera Su, owned by a Turkish
company, veered off course and ran aground near Kamen Bryag on
the night of September 20, carrying 3,000 tonnes of urea.

Environment Minister Asen Lichev welcomed the successful end of
the complicated rescue operation after all of Vera Su's flooded
cargo was transhipped. Lichev thanked all participants in the
operation and proposed that they be listed to receive state
