site.btaBulgaria Calls on Turkey to Refrain from Propaganda Related to Bulgarian Elections

Sofia, November 18 (BTA) - The Permanent Secretary of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry Ivan Kondov and Turkish Ambassador to Bulgaria Aylin Sekizkok held a meeting at the Foreign Ministry, regarding the November 14 elections for Parliament and President in Bulgaria, including the upcoming runoff presidential election on November 21, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release here on Thursday.

The Turkish Ambassador was informed about involvement of Turkish political leaders, expatriate organizations and media in agitation for voting in favour of a certain political party in Bulgaria.

The Bulgarian side said it expects Turkish institutions and officials to categorically refrain from propaganda and political messages related to the upcoming November 21 presidential elections in Bulgaria.

Later on Thursday, a protest against Turkey's possible interference in the November 21 runoff presidential elections was held in front of the Turkish Embassy building in central Sofia, blocking traffic along Vassil Levski Boulevard. The protestors threw tomatoes at the building, after which many dispersed. The remaining protestors moved to the Turkish Ambassador's residence, where police presence was strong. One of the posters read: "Turkey is a disloyal and dangerous neighbour".
