Varna, on the Black Sea, November 22 (BTA) - Nine people have died in a nursing home fire in the northeastern village of Royak, near Varna. Two others are in critical condition. The fire was reported around 6:00 pm on Monday. Six fire trucks have managed to extinguish the fire, which started from the building's roof. Firefighters remained on standby in case the fire reignites.

The nursing home has around 60 residents, who have been evacuated, but some have suffered smoke inhalation, the Varna Appellate Prosecution Office reported.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated and expert examinations will be carried out. Varna District Prosecutor Krassimir Konov will supervise the initial inspections, which will start as soon as the building is deemed safe to enter.

The nursing home residents who were not injured in the fire will be accommodated in a hotel in the village of Asparuhovo. The ones who are infirm will be transported with vans provided by the Municipality of Dulgopol. MY
