Gabrovo, Central Bulgaria, July 29 (BTA) - A woman from the Village of Vranilovtsi was killed, and a man from the same village is missing after torrential rains that hit the Gabrovo area on Monday morning. The municipality experienced rain of more than 200 litres per square metre between 8 p.m. on July 28 and 1 a.m. on July 29, the municipal security headquarters said.
The torrential rain inundated house basements in some villages and carried away cars and farming machinery. Seventy villages and four quarters in Gabrovo were left without electricity. Power supply has been reconnected. Water supply is unavailable in three villages and parts of Gabrovo.
The water level of the River Ossum at Lovech has nearly trebled over the last 24 hours, BTA learnt from the weather station. Some rivers may swell due to the heavy rains, the Ministry of Environment and Water said.
