Bulgarian Socialist Party Firmly against Financing Private Schools with Money from Budget

Pernik, Western Bulgaria, January 12 (BTA) - The Bulgarian
Socialist Party (BSP) - Left Bulgaria coalition in Parliament is
firmly against financing private schools with money from the
budget, Socialist MP Valeri Zhablyanov told a news conference
here.

The MP said the BSP has moved its own public education bill
which is different from the bill submitted by the ruling GERB
party. In Zhablyanov's words, the GERB bill is intended "to
eliminate" the system of public education and create a
horizontal structure of private, public and state-owned
educational institutions with equal financing from the state
budget. According to the MP, financing private schools with
money from the budget is tantamount to favouring them, since the
money channelled to private schools will be at the expense of
municipal schools. "Thus, private schools will eat into the
subsidy for state-run schools," Zhablyanov said.
