Culture Minister, UNESCO Director General Discuss
Inclusion of Magoura Cave
on World Heritage List

Sofia, January 13 (BTA) - Culture Minister Vezhdi Rashidov and
UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova on Tuesday agreed that
Bulgaria needs to speed up the drafting of a proposal to include
the Magoura Cave on UNESCO's World Heritage List, the Culture
Ministry reported.

During a working meeting in Sofia, Rashidov and Bokova concurred
that the Magoura Cave, with its unique and mysterious drawings
of rituals and hunting scenes dating back 7,000 years, is
totally eligible to be proclaimed a World Heritage Site.

Rashidov said this will be a great honour for Bulgaria, a
country which is proud of its cultural, historical and natural
heritage.

He also updated Bokova on the sideline events during a planned
exhibition at the Louvre Museum in Paris, entitled: "The Epic of
Thracian Kings. Archaeological Discoveries in Bulgaria," which
will open on April 15. In the days following the opening of the
exhibition, there will be a Week of Bulgarian Cinema in Paris
marking the 100th anniversary of the Bulgarian film industry,
the Minister said. LI/VE
