Tourism Zoning of Bulgaria to be Fact by End of Month

Varna, on the Black Sea, January 16 (BTA) - The tourism zoning
of Bulgaria will be "a fact" by the end of the month, Tourism
Minister Nikolina Angelkova said here on Friday. The topic will
be discussed in detail next week, after which nine tourism
regions are expected to be determined: Northern Black Sea,
Southern Black Sea, the Valley of Roses, Danube, Rhodope, Rila,
Pirin, Balkan Range, and Sofia, Angelkova said.

The Minister said also that work starts on the creation of
tourism research observatories whose task will be to collect
statistical data in the sector and create innovative tourist
products. Universities and local powers are to assist the
observatories. The project will be implemented in partnership
with Romania and with support from the European Commission and
the World Tourism Organization.

The State will also help the development of cruise tourism by
reducing by 14 per cent the port fee for cruise vessels,
Angelkova said.

In Varna Angelkova conferred with representatives of the tourism
sector, Mayor Ivan Portnih and Regional Governor Stoyan Passev.
The Minister outlined key problems in the sector, including the
infrastructure, the quality of staff working in tourism, and
the opportunities to attract holiday makers from new
destinations to sett off the drop in tourists from Russia and
Ukraine.
