Prosecution Office Seeks Dismissal of Botevgrad Mayor Georgiev
Sofia, July 13 (BTA) - The Sofia District Prosecution Office has
taken legal action for termination of the credentials of Georgi
Georgiev as Mayor of Botevgrad.
The prosecutors found that Georgiev is Managing Director and
partner in the Keram-97 OOD commercial corporation, has not
applied for a release and has not been released from these
positions since taking office in 2011.
Under the Local Self-Government and Local Administration Act,
municipality mayors may not concurrently be controllers,
managing directors or managerial agents in commercial
corporations, business attorneys, commercial representatives, or
members of supervisory, management and control bodies of
commercial corporations, and such incompatibility is grounds for
early termination of a mayor's credentials.
On June 5, the Sofia District Prosecution Office alerted the
Botevgrad Municipal Election Commission about its finding,
enclosing the requisite documents. By a decision of June 26, the
Election Commission refused to terminate Georgiev's credentials
before the expiry of his term of office. The Prosecution Office
appealed this decision before the Sofia Region Administrative
Court, and the case is pending.
