European Parliament's Committee on Budgets Approves EUR 6.4 Mln of Disaster Aid for Bulgaria

Brussels, September 15 (BTA Correspondent Nikolay Jeliazkov) - The European Parliament's Committee on Budgets Monday approved 6,377,815 euro in EU disaster aid for Bulgaria to help repair the damage done by the severe floods in January and February 2015. The proposed aid will be put to a vote by the EP in October.

The resources will be provided by the European Solidarity Fund, which will refund part of the costs that Bulgaria incurred to repair the damage done by severe weather conditions to public and private infrastructure, particularly in southeast Bulgaria, the EP said in a press release Monday.

The European Commission has already paid an advance of 637,782 euro, or 10 per cent of the anticipated European Solidarity Fund contribution, for urgent recovery of Bulgaria's transport infrastructure, drainage, safety and preventive infrastructure.
