Bulgaria Has Done Everything to Close Its Border to Illegal Migrants - Prime Minister

Bourgas, on the Black Sea, September 19 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said on Saturday that Bulgaria has closed its border to illegal immigrants. "Everyone who wants to cross over in the way prescribed by the law will be allowed through, but only that," Borissov told journalists in the seaside town of Sozopol.

He said no one can stay calm while watching the refugee crisis as it plays out. "Gendarmerie and police are holding off the refugees 40 km from our border, allowing only cars and truck to pass through. The Chief Secretary of the Interior Ministry is on the scene as well, he will meet with the Turkish Prime Minister later today," Borissov said.

Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry reported the arrest of 137 people during a regular weekly enforcement operation against illegal migration. They were found during checks at hostels and small hotels in downtown Sofia. These people will be accommodated in the registration centres of the Migration Directorate, where steps will be taken to establish their identity, how they got into the country and whether they are eligible to receive refugee status.
