Foreign Ministry Issues Recommendation to Bulgarian Nationals Travelling through Serbia

Sofia, September 24 (BTA) - According to data of the Bulgarian Embassy in Belgrade, the passage of passenger and freight vehicles through the Batrovci-Bayakovo control checkpoint at the Serbian-Croatian border was suspended on Thursday morning, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said in a press release.

A ban is in force on the import and transit passage of any kind of goods originating from Croatia, irrespective of the owner, distributor and carrier. Freight vehicles with a Croatian registration are prohibited from entering. The limitations apply to all Serbian border control checkpoints, including at the border with Bulgaria.

On Thursday Croatia introduced a ban on the entry in its territory of vehicles with Serbian registration and Serbian nationals.

High-ranking representatives of the EU have made statements on the need to urgently restore the traffic along Pan-European Corridor 10.

The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry warns of possible delays in the passage of freight vehicles through the checkpoints on the Serbian-Bulgarian border due to the Serbian authorities' increased customs checks into the origins of the transported goods.

The Bulgarian Embassy in Belgrade recommends that Bulgarian citizens use alternative routes so as to avoid the border between Serbia and Croatia.

All control checkpoints at the Serbian-Hungarian border are working normally, the press release reads.
