Meetings of Bulgarian Foreign Minister Mitov within 70th session of UN General Assembly
New York/Sofia, September 28 (BTA) - Bulgarian Foreign Minister
Daniel Mitov conferred in New York with Todd C. Chapman,
Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of
Political-Military Affairs, and with Vietnamese Foreign Minister
Pham Binh Minh, Mitov's Ministry said in a press release
Monday. The Bulgarian Foreign Minister is participating in the
70th session of the UN General Assembly.
Mitov and Chapman discussed current issues of the bilateral and
international agenda, including the situation in the Middle East
and the threats to security, opportunities to deepen the
strategic dialogue between Bulgaria and the United States, and
the bilateral cooperation in defence and security. The
participants in the talks also discussed the opportunities for
modernizing the Bulgarian Armed Forces and Bulgaria's
participation in U.S. initiatives and programmes in the area of
defence.
Mitov's talks with his Vietnamese counterpart focused on the
opportunities for furthering the cooperation between the two
countries, based on concrete agreements and projects in the
economic and social area, as well as the cooperation for
development. The two also discussed the further intensification
of the interaction within the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM)
vis-a-vis joint activities under the Danube-Mekong initiative.
The two officials also noted the traditionally good cooperation
within the United Nations.
