Bulgaria Introduces New Vignette Stickers for 2016

Sofia, December 14 (BTA) - There will be two million vignette stickers for 2016 in BulgariaТs distribution network as of Tuesday, the Chairman of the Road Infrastructure Agency, Lazar Lazarov, told a news conference in the first day of the new week.

There are enough vignettes valid until the end of 2015 for sale, eh said. The new ones will be valid as of January 1, 2016.

The price increase of the vignettes for 2016 is due to the shortage of funds to maintain the road network, Lazarov said, recalling that these prices have not been raised in more than eight years.

Regional and Urban Planning Minister Liliyana Pavlova pointed out that the updated price and increased revenue will allow more funds for investments in maintenance of over 12,000 third-class roads, which are in an unacceptable condition. About 6 million vignette stickers are sold every year, Pavlova recalled.

The principle of gradual updating of vignette prices (which makes it easier for the people) should be introduced from now on, Pavlova said.
