Driver Transporting over 100 Illegal Migrants Remains in Custody

Pazardjik, December 31 (BTA) - At the request of the Regional Prosecution Office in Pazardjik, the Regional Court ruled that Shaban R. (55), a Macedonian citizens having a permanent residence permit by the Bulgarian authorities, will remain in custody. The man is charged with helping illegal aliens cross illegally the country's territory, the message says.

During the investigation, it has been established that the defendant drove a truck transporting 119 foreign citizens without ID documents. The truck was intercepted near the Lesichovo Village. It transpired later that the migrants were from Syria and Iraq including children under the age of 16.

The ruling may be appealed before the Pazardjik District Court.
