Bulgaria Builds Another 35 km of Border Fence
Yambol, Southern Bulgaria, May 30 (BTA) - Bulgaria has built another 35 km of border fence, in the territory of Yambol Region which borders on Turkey. Announcing the completion of construction, Yambol Regional Governor Dimiter Ivanov said that an access road has also been build.
Bulgaria is building fence on the border with Turkey in the regions of Bourgas, Yambol and Haskovo.
The fence is designed to assist the border police in countering illegal border crossings as migration pressure mounts.
The fence is made of materials which make it sturdier and harder to overcome than the first 30-km fence stretch built by the Defence Ministry in Yambol Region.
The difficult and rocky terrain and lack of road infrastructure were serious obstacles during the construction, said Dimiter Ivanov.
The final cost of the construction will be clear after all construction papers are submitted by the contractor.
