 December 21 (BTA) - Education and Science Minister Nikolay Denkov said to journalists on Tuesday that his ministry has submitted its expectations for the 2022 education budget to the Ministry of Finance and has requested an increase in teachers' salaries to mach the coalition agreement, which aims for about 125 per cent of the average salary.


''Last week we had a branch council with the trade unions, we presented our application to the Ministry of Finance and it was welcomed. They support this budget proposal, with a 13.5 per cent increase in teachers' salaries leading them up to 125 per cent of the average salary, Minister Denkov explained.


The Education Ministry also requested additional funds for transport - for school buses, for extracurricular activities, for teacher training, as well as for training in dealing with crisis situations. The conversation about the 2022 education budget is upcoming, said the Education Minister.


An increase in the maintenance funds for higher education establishments has also been requested, as there is a shortage of funds for salaries both in the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and for the non-pedagogical staff in higher education establishments, explained Denkov, adding that another item on the list . is an increase in scholarships for students and doctoral students..
