Close to 180 people from the Southwestern Forestry Unit, the Regional Directorate for Forests, the Fire Department, the Military and volunteers are continuing to put out the fire on the Bulgarian-Greek border on Slavyanka Mountain, said on Wednesday Plamen Poyukov, Director of the State Forestry in the village of Katuntsi.

He noted that both Spanish aircraft with larger water-tank capacity are also involved the firefighting. "Things are moving in the right direction, we have a lot of helpers and planes, so we hope to get the fire under control," he said.

A new hotspot had broken out on Monday in the fire in Slavyanka Mountain, with the situation remaining complicated. The hotspot is about a kilometre from the place where the fire was contained on Monday.
