Bulgaria Produces 128 Million Litres of Wine in 2016

Pleven, North Central Bulgaria, February 14 (BTA) - In 2016 Bulgaria produced 128 million litres of wine, 62 million litres out of which are expected to be exported, caretaker Agriculture and Food Minister Hristo Bozoukov said here on Tuesday. In Pleven Bozoukov visited the Institute of Vine-growing and Wine-making on the occasion of St Tryphon's Day, the patron saint of vine growers.

Bozoukov said, approached by a BTA reporter, that the long spell of freezing weather in January has probably damaged some vineyards, but hopefully, this would not cause lasting damage to the grape harvest which does not only depend on weather conditions but also on how vines are cared for.

Bozoukov took part in a ceremony of ritual cutting of vines, which was also attended by Pleven Regional Governor Ralitsa Dobreva, Mayor George Spartanski, vine-growers and wine makers.
