January 2017 Trips of Bulgarians Abroad up 20% Y/Y - Statistics

Sofia, February 28 (BTA) - The trips of Bulgarian residents abroad in January 2017 numbered 369,500 or by 20.4 per cent more year-on-year, the National Statistical Institute said on Tuesday.

Trips for other purposes (guest, education or cultural and sport events) in January 2017 composed the greatest share of the total number of trips of Bulgarian residents abroad - 50.7 per cent, followed by the trips for professional purposes - 27.1 per cent, and for holiday and recreation purposes - 22.2 per cent.

In January 2017 registered visits of foreigners numbered 454,600 or 10.9 per cent more compared to January 2016. Increase was registered in the trips for all observed purposes: for professional purposes - by 27.6 per cent, for other purposes - by 9.1 per cent, for holiday and recreation purposes - by 7 per cent.

An increase of the trips of Bulgarians year-on-year was registered towards Italy - by 111.9 per cent, the United Kingdom - by 46.7 per cent, France - by 40.2%, Spain - by 37.7 per cent, Romania - by 28.3 per cent, Austria - by 21.6 per cent, Serbia - 17.5 per cent, Germany - by 15.3 per cent, Macedonia - by 7.7 per cent, Greece - by 5.7 per cent, etc. At the same time there was a decrease in the trips to Portugal - by 18.9 per cent, Slovenia - by 13.2 per cent, the Netherlands - by 12.3 per cent, Turkey - by 0.9 per cent, etc.
