Bulgaria Takes Part in Quadrilateral Balkan Meeting of Police Chiefs

Thessaloniki, Greece, December 18 (BTA) - The Chief Secretary of the Bulgarian Interior Ministry, Mladen Marinov, took part in the First Quadrilateral Meeting of Police Chiefs of Greece, Albania, Bulgaria and Macedonia, which was held in Thessaloniki, Marinov's ministry reported on Monday.

The sides agreed on a system of liaison points for direct information exchange at the central and regional level. They also agreed that police directors in border areas will hold meetings with their peers across the border, and that experts from the four countries will meet to discuss particular activities. The quadrilateral meeting acknowledged the need for joint training of police officers. It also pointed to the possibility for Macedonia and Albania to join the proceedings of the contact centre in the Greek border village of Promachonas.

The participants decided that the next four-party meeting of police chiefs will be held in Skopje in the first half of 2018.

The Thessaloniki forum was also attended by the chiefs of three directorates of the Bulgarian Interior Ministry: Ivailo Spiridonov (Anti-Organized Crime), Svetlan Kichikov (Border Police) and Valentin Kostov (International Cooperation).
