site.btaSwiss Federal Councillor Maurer Pays Working Visit to Sofia, Meets Finance Minister Goranov

Sofia, January 5 (BTA) - During a working visit to Sofia, Swiss Federal Councillor and head of the Federal Department of Finance, Ueli Maurer, met Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov in Sofia, the Finance Ministry and the Swiss Embassy said Friday.

The visit took place in the framework of Bulgaria's Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2018 and concentrated on the bilateral issues of finance and tax between Switzerland and the EU.

Meeting with the guest, Finance Minister Goranov briefed him on the priorities of the Bulgarian Presidency in the area of tax policy, financial services and financial markets, and enhancing the Economic and Monetary Union. Maurer congratulated Bulgaria on its ambitious programme and vowed his country's support for the priorities.

Federal Councillor Maurer visited the Police Academy to see the implementation of three cooperation projects financed by the Bulgarian-Swiss Cooperation Programme: "Capacity building of forensic experts", "Counteracting crimes related to motor vehicle trafficking" and "Strengthening human-rights based policing".

Councillor Maurer visited a training polygon, which is being built under the project for human-rights based policing.
