Sofia, January 19 (BTA) - The Bulgarian Active Consumers Association and the European Consumer Association (BEUC) announced Friday that they are introducing a quality assurance sign for e-shops. Representatives of the two organizations told a news briefing that the e-nadejden [e-trustworthy] sign is meant to help consumers navigate the e-market in Bulgaria.

To obtain the sign, an e-trader will be required to fulfill nine standards which will be publicly announced. It will cost 200 leva to apply and use the sign for a year, and another 200 leva to renew for another year. A compliance board will be in charge of monitoring compliance. Disappointed consumers will be able to submit alerts for non-compliance on the website of the e-nadezhden project, at www.e-nadejden.bg.

BEUC President Orjan Brinkman said that his organization is proud to be part of the initiative and believes that the project will be useful for Bulgarian consumers. He said that BEUC has helped the Bulgarian organization in preparing and introducing the quality assurance sign with its expertise in consumer protection.
