site.btaPrime Minister Borissov to Attend World Economic Forum Annual Meeting

Sofia, January 24 (BTA) - Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov will be in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, on January 26 to take part in the 48th World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting which is themed "Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World," the government press service reported on Wednesday.

Borissov will join a discussion on accelerating the long-term development of the Western Balkans. He will also hold separate talks with world political and economic leaders taking part in the WEF Annual Meeting. He will be leading a delegation which will include Bulgarian EU Presidency Minister Liliyana Pavlova and Tourism Minister Nikolina Angelkova.

Bulgarian Ambassador to Switzerland Meglena Plougchieva told bTV that over 70 countries are taking part in the January 23-26 meeting. US President Donald Trump attracts the greatest interest. Almost all European leaders are there, including French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and European Council President Donald Tusk. There are many representatives of Asia and Africa as well. The event is being attended not only by politicians but also by world economic leaders.

Fourteen discussion panels are dealing with a variety of topics, including environment, climate change, education and digital economy. Special attention is being paid to cybersecurity, Plougchieva said.

Before travelling to Davos, Prime Minister Borissov will be in Liechtenstein on January 25 for talks with Hereditary Prince Alois, Prime Minister Adrian Hasler and Foreign Affairs, Justice and Culture Minister Aurelia Frick. The sides will consider ways to invigorate bilateral trade and economic relations and to promote cooperation in financial and tax matters. They will also discuss the priorities of the current Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
