Sofia, March 7 (BTA) - The 22nd edition of the International Sofia film Fest will open with Milko Lazarov's 'Aga' at Hall 1 of the National Palace of Culture on Wednesday evening. This is the Bulgarian premiere of the film which closed Berlinale, the organisers said. The festival will continue until March 29.
A co-production with Germany and France, 'Aga' was the first Bulgarian movie at Berlinale in 29 years. The script, written by director Simeon Ventsislavov, has already received the prestigious ScripTeast Award at Cannes in 2015.
Sofia Film Fest viewers will also be able to watch Berlinale winner, 'Touch me not' by Romanian director Adina Pintilie, a co-production with Romanian, German, Czech, French and Bulgarian participation. The film has a Bulgarian co-producer, Martichka Bozhilova of Agitprop, and two Bulgarian actors in the cast, Irmena Chichikova and Georgi Naldjiev.
The programme of the 22nd Sofia Film Fest also includes 22 feature films. Bulgarian titles in the fest number 46, both feature and documentaries, including co-productions. These will be presented in partnership with the National Film Centre.
Bulgarian films also have a place at the Sofia Meetings platform which has been organized for 15 years within the framework of Sofia Film Fest to present projects and closed screenings before experts from all over the world.
A total of 112 Bulgarian projects have been presented over the years and 107 films were screened.
The international competition includes Rouzie Hassanova's 'Radiogram' and Iliyan Metev's 'Three-fourths'. Sofia Film Fest will also feature an omnibus after Georgi Gospodinov's short stories '8 Minutes, 19 Seconds', a production of the Bulgarian National Television, as well as Maxim Genchev's 'Fugitive Smartphone'. Valentin Goshev's 'Motor' and Alexander Smolyanov's 'A Bit of Luck Later' will also be shown.
Eleven Bulgarian documentaries will be screened at Sofia Film Fest.
The new films of established world cinema names are in the fest's 'Cinema Today - Great Masters' section. The titles include Fatih Akim's 'In the Fade' with Diane Kruger (Best Actress at Cannes 2017), Andrey Zvyaginstev's 'Loveless' (with awards from Cannes, London and the European Film Academy, as well as an Oscar nomination for Foreign Language Film), and Michel Hazanavicius' 'The Redoubtable' premiered in Cannes in 2017, among others.
Films in partnership with the embassies of Azerbaijan and Indonesia - 'Ali and Nino' by Asif Kapadia and Adriyanto Dewo's 'Tabula Rasa' will be presented for the first time at the festival.
Israeli cinema and a programme dedicated to 1968 are also in the focus of the fest./BR
