Sofia, March 29 (BTA) - A Thursday press release of the U.S. Embassy in Bulgaria reads that Ambassador Eric Rubin reiterates American government support for U.S. companies investing in Bulgaria.

Ambassador Rubin notes that the U.S. Embassy in Sofia does not participate in private contract negotiations between a government and business entities. In his words, private contract negotiations are not something in which the U.S. Government will play a role. The Ambassador points out that the U.S. Embassy encourages and supports American company investment in Bulgaria, including in the energy sector, and gives AES Maritsa East 1 and ContourGlobul Maritsa East 3 as an example of true success stories of American investment in Bulgaria.

Ambassador Rubin points out the many employment opportunities created for Bulgarians by American-owned thermal power plants in the Stara Zagora region (South Central Bulgaria). Additionally, both power plants purchase fuel supplied from within Bulgaria, creating even more job opportunities and supporting local economies.

"American investments in the Maritsa thermal power stations have given thousands of good jobs to Bulgarians, solved the energy deficit in Bulgaria, and done much for those living in regional communities. These plants use Bulgarian energy resources, they produce Bulgarian energy, which is very important in terms of Bulgaria's energy security," Rubin is quoted as saying.

"All Bulgarian energy projects, including the Belene [nuclear power plant] project, should take into account Bulgaria's future energy market, energy sources, and energy independence," he recalls, as quoted in the press release.
