Sofia, April 23 (BTA) - Emerging from an informal meeting of the EU ministers of health, EU Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis who is in charge of health and foods, commented that it is not easy to build a common regulatory framework for food quality. He added that food safety is guaranteed across the EU and that everybody disagrees with having a Europe of two or more speeds when it comes to the quality of food and citizens' rights.

Bulgarian Health Ministry Kiril Ananiev said that it is unacceptable for Bulgaria to see its citizens being sold inferior food compared to their piers from Western Europe.

Healthy nutrition for children and the effectiveness and accessibility of medicines dominated the discussions during the Sofia meeting of the EU health ministers. Commissioner Andriukaitis underscored the importance of ensuring equal access to the social systems and protecting citizens against shortages of medicines.

Ananiev said that the meeting also discussed the spending of public funds and that a decision will be discussed and made together with the European Commission, which will add value for each European citizen.
