The short summer tourist season in Bulgaria is not due to poor quality of tourist service but to advertising, said Dr. Frank Quante, CEO of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management, the joint-stock concessionaire of the two seaside airports in Varna and Burgas. According to him, efforts need to be focused on creating a quality marketing strategy.
Quante was one of the guests of the National Forum for Air Transport Connectivity and Tourism, which was held in Burgas on Wednesday.
He cited data for Burgas Airport showing that July and August are still the busiest months in terms of flights carried out. There continues to be a downward trend in flights from and to Burgas in May and September.
The solution is to find a connection with major airports such as those in Frankfurt, Warsaw and Istanbul, said Quante. He added that negotiations have been held with Turkish Airlines, and the company has shown interest in Burgas Airport. It is expected that from next year the airline will make flights to and from the city five times a week.
He pointed out that key markets for Burgas Airport remain Poland, the UK, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Belgium and Austria.
