The Varna Municipal Council Wednesday adopted a declaration demanding that the bill for the construction of wind farms in the Black Sea be withdrawn. The decision was passed with 34 votes in favour and 4 against. The declaration will be sent to the National Assembly.
The Vazrazhdane political party raised the issue by warning that the construction of wind farms in the sea could directly wipe out the tourism sector and the fishing business.
Meanwhile, residents of several villages from the municipality of Sredets protested in front of the Palace of Justice in downtown Burgas against the construction of a photovoltaic park in the villages of Dyulevo, Orlintsi, Suhodol and Svetlina. The protest was organized after locals had stated that the implementation of the project will seriously threaten all agricultural sectors in the region. The photovoltaics are planned to be constructed on usable pastures the status of which has already been changed, protest organizers told BTA.
Burgas Regional Governor Plamen Yanev reversed the decision of the Sredets Municipal Council after he deemed the changes in the status of the lands as illegal. He reasoned that there is insufficient detailed examination of the investment intention and no economic justification.
According to the decision of the municipal councillors, the park should be located on the land of the villages of Dyulevo, Orlintsi, Suhodol and Svetlina on an area of over 800 ha.
