The coastal Municipality of Nessebar is starting work on a new tourism project called "TOURAL", which will be implemented within the framework of the Horizon Europe Programme and with the financial support of the European Union, the municipality reported on Friday.

The total budget of the project is almost BGN 6 million and its duration is 36 months. It involves 20 partner organisations from Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Italy, Croatia, Albania, France, Turkiye and Ukraine. The Municipality said that it is a pilot site and will take part in the validation of the project results.

The "TOURAL" project focuses on cultural and creative tourism as a driver of sustainable development, taking into account the requirements of the EU Tourism Transition Plan. The scope of the planned interventions includes three regions from the Adriatic-Ionian macro-region - Italy, Croatia, Greece - and three regions from the Black Sea basin - Bulgaria, Romania and Ukraine.

Rural and remote areas of the EU have many assets and qualities, but they also face unique challenges, the most important of which is the diversification of economic activities beyond traditional sectors such as agriculture, forestry and fisheries. Undoubtedly, tourism can support the economic development of rural and remote areas. The new "TOURAL" project will address these challenges over the next three years, added the Municipality of Nessebar.
