site.btaEnvironmentalists to Release Back to Nature Seven Common Buzzards after Rehabilitation

Sofia, February 14 (BTA) - Seven common buzzards will be released in the wild after having spent some time at the Rehabilitation Centre of the Green Balkans NGO, Hristina Klisurova of the centre told BTA on Monday.

The staff had treated various conditions, ranging from exhaustion and loss of feathers to such requiring operations.

The birds will be released back to nature by the Kremikovtsi monastery near Sofia on Tuesday, at an event featuring volunteers and donors. The birds will arrive by special transport from the Rehabilitation Centre, located in the southern city of Stara Zagora.

The common buzzard is a protected species.

The Rehabilitation Centre deals with some 2,500 "patients" a year, mainly birds, but also frequently small mammals like squirrels and hedgehogs. It has two specially equipped "animal ambulances". /MY/BR
