Vidin Regional Governor Ani Harutyunyan said at the opening of the regional Europe in the Balkans: A Common Future conference in Vidin, that the region has proven its potential with many examples for this in recent years.

Harutyunyan noted that the conference raises current topics like the improvement of the standard of living in Bulgaria and in particular in the Vidin region, adding that the Сtate administration, as well as the municipal administration, are working hard to attract new investors to the region and give a better boost to the economic development.

"The implementation of European policies at the local level is undoubtedly related to positive results for economic growth in the region for businesses, for more jobs and for competitiveness", said Harutyunyan, noting that the expressway to Botevgrad is still in the process of construction. However, a 13 kilometre section of it has been in operation since March, which makes traveling in the region much easier.

Within a few years, with the complete construction of the motorway, a quick connection from Danube Bridge 2 to the Hemus and Struma motorways will be ensured, said Harutyunyan.

She added that the expressway has the potential to completely change the face of Northwest Bulgaria. "By improving transport connectivity, this project will stimulate economic development, reduce tangible socio-economic differences, as well as significantly improve the quality of life in the region and develop tourism".
