Since the beginning of April, officers from Bulgaria’s General Directorate of Border Police (GDBP) have issued 2,384 electronic ticket fines totaling over 320,000 BGN, the Ministry of Interior said here on Saturday. Of these, 1,897 fines amounting to nearly 131,000 BGN were paid on the spot. The ministry highlighted that revenue from fines in the first half of April nearly doubled compared to the second half of March.
As part of their border control and compensatory measures, border police also check for unserved electronic tickets and unpaid traffic fines in the Ministry’s automated system. If unpaid or unserved fines are detected, they are handed to the individual, who can pay immediately using a POS terminal.
The Ministry emphasized that these enforcement activities do not hinder the free movement of citizens, but instead contribute to road safety efforts and support the work of the Traffic Police. Additionally, the initiative boosts state revenue, the Ministry added.
