site.bta Doors to Bulgaria's Aprilov High School Always Open to Students of Ukraine's Bolhrad High School

The doors to the Aprilov National High School in Gabrovo (Central Bulgaria) are always open to students of the Bolhrad High School and Bulgarians around the world, the school principal, Elvira Hristova, said on Thursday, Day Two of the 19th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media. This year's meeting is mottoed "Media and Community" and the opening was held in hybrid format - on-site and via video conference. The forum will be on until June 21, with discussions taking place in Odesa, Bolhrad and Izmail, which are home to large Bulgarian communities.

The annual get-together of Bulgarian-language media outlets from across the world has been held since 2005 by the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).

Hristova participated online in the second panel on "Knowing One's Ancestry and Mother Tongue in Bulgarian Media". She said it would be great if those children could go to Bulgaria to experience their historical homeland.

The Aprilov High School is a successor of the first Bulgarian secular school, established in 1835 when Bulgaria was still part of the Ottoman Empire.

The school is named after Vasil Aprilov, who lived most of his life in Odesa, said Hristova. He made his wealth there and realized that he could accomplish the most patriotic mission, so he began preparations for the establishment of the school in Gabrovo.

BTA organizes the 19th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media in Odesa, Bolhrad and Izmail (Ukraine) from June 18 until June 21, 2024 with the assistance of Aurubis Bulgaria, A1 Bulgaria, Glavbolgarstroy Holding, Euroins Insurance Group, SOF Connect - the operator of Sofia Airport, 13 Centuries Bulgaria National Endowment Fund.
