A charity fair was organized in the Bessarabian Bulgarian village of Glavan, Bolhrad Region. The event was dedicated to the 193rd anniversary of the founding of the village, Glavan Lyceum Director Valentina Kassa told BTA’s BG World service on Tuesday.

"Our students together with parents and teaching staff organized a charity fair. The collected funds in the amount of about BGN 600 will be handed over to the needs of the Ukrainian army," she pointed out.

The Glavan Lyceum currently has 136 students, 95% of whom are Bulgarian.

"In the school, children also study Bulgarian language and literature as a compulsory subject. From 1st to 4th grade they learn their mother tongue for 1 hour a week, while from 5th to 11th grade the curriculum features 2 hours a week of Bulgarian," Kassa added.

The village of Glavan is located in Bolhrad Region and was founded by Bulgarian settlers from Stara Zagora in 1830. According to the last census in 2001, the number of inhabitants was 2,510 people, 95% of whom Bulgarians. In 2019, a cooperation agreement was signed between Glavan and Bulgarian village of the same name near Silistra.
