The Central Election Commission (CEC) Saturday decided to cancel the registration of Ima Smisal [It Matters] for participation in the October 27 snap parliamentary elections. The coalition does not plan to appeal the decision, according to a Facebook post by Viktoria Vassileva, who represents the political formation.
The coalition Ima Smisal [It Matters] comprises the Bulgarian Social Democratic Party and Badete Smeli [Be Brave]. It submitted its registration documents for running in the early general elections on September 10.
A check by the General Directorate of Civil Registration and Administrative Services at the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works found that the total number of correct entries in the list of voters supporting the coalition's registration was less than 2,500. The registration requirements of the Election Code are thus not met, according to the CEC decision.
The coalition's deposit of BGN 2,500 will be refunded within seven days from the entry into force of this decision. It is subject to appeal to the Supreme Administrative Court through the CEC within three days of its announcement.
Independent MP Viktoria Vassileva, representing the coalition, wrote on her Facebook profile that the CEC was not to blame for de-registering the coalition. "I am saying this because everyone is only exercising on them," she said. "We know whose fault it is, but we will neither blame nor explain nor whine. The only thing we will do is to correct this 'mistake' in the elections in the spring of 2025. That's it!" Vassileva's post reads.
