site.btaNew Digital Platform Guides Moldovan Voters on Party Positions

Ahead of the parliamentary elections in Moldova, scheduled for September 28, a new online platform, Voter Compass, has been launched to help voters identify which parties align most closely with their views. The elections, in which pro-European and pro-Russian forces are in a tight race, will directly impact Moldova’s EU membership bid.
The platform is available in Romanian and Russian at busolamea.md. Users are asked to compare their opinions with 35 statements on key issues facing Moldova, including whether joining the European Union is necessary to safeguard the country’s independence, whether Russia should play the role of Moldova’s economic and energy partner, the perceived threat of Russian troops in Transnistria, and the importance of strengthening the autonomous status of the Gagauzia region.
Participants can respond on a five-point scale, from “Strongly agree” to “Strongly disagree,” with an additional “No opinion” option, which does not affect political alignment calculations.
The platform calculates the user’s position on the Voter Compass relative to the positions of parties participating in the elections, allowing voters to see how closely or distantly their views align with different political forces.
The tool does not make voting recommendations. All answers are anonymous, and no data is stored or shared with third parties. Results are available only to the user.
The initiative is implemented by German political foundations Friedrich Ebert, Konrad Adenauer, Friedrich Naumann, Heinrich Boll, and Hanns Seidel, in cooperation with the Moldovan National Democratic Institute, the International Republican Institute, and the Dutch company Kieskompas BV.
