Six Bulgarian nationals left the quakes-shaken Greek island of Santorini by ferry on Thursday afternoon, and three more decided to depart by the ferry to Crete at 11:50 p.m., the Foreign Ministry told BTA on Thursday. The information comes from the Bulgarian Embassy in Athens, which is in touch with the local authorities and following the situation.
Earlier in the day, Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev said that some 30 Bulgarians have already left Santorini, while 27 have decided to remain on the island.
A state of emergency was declared on the Greek island on Thursday against the backdrop of increased seismic activity in the Cyclades islands area for days now. Many residents and visitors have left, the Kathimerini reports. The state of emergency is in force until March 3, the civil protection authorities said.
