site.btaOne Spectator Killed, Eight Injured in Car Race Crash near Aladzha Monastery in Varna


A spectator was killed and eight people were injured during an incident at the “Aladzha Monastery” hill climb car race held in Varna, the Varna Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry said on Sunday.
The alert about the accident was received at 11:10 a.m. The crash occurred at the first turn after the T-junction with Knyaz Boris I Boulevard, in the direction of Aladzha Monastery.
The driver reportedly lost control of his car, went through the guardrail, and crashed into the audience.
The victim, a 60-year-old man, died at the scene. A 27-year-old woman was admitted to intensive care with life-threatening injuries, and a 39-year-old man suffered an ankle fracture and was hospitalized in the orthopedics ward.
Police said the number of injured continues to rise as more people with minor injuries arrive at the hospital.
The event is organized by the Automobile Federation of Bulgaria with the support of the Varna Municipality.
