The John Atanasoff Bulgarian Sunday School in Chicago, together with the Magura Bulgarian Cultural Centre and the Horo Folklore Formation, nominated Kina Bagovska for the Saint Zlata of Meglen Award in 2025, the Executive Agency for Bulgarians Abroad (EABA) said.
Bagovska is a co-author of Bulgarian Touches in the American Landscape, an initiator of the creation of the Bulgarian-American Cultural Heritage Center in Chicago and an organizer of citywide celebrations on May 24, the EABA pointed out.
“Kina Bagovska is an artist, journalist and teacher, whose work goes beyond the borders of Bulgaria and leaves a bright mark in Chicago and beyond. She is the winner of numerous awards, including honors from the Illinois Council for the Arts and recognitions from Chicago Municipality,” the EABA said, adding that she has been instilling a love for Bulgaria in the younger generations in Chicago for over 25 years.
On October 15, the EABA will present its annual Bulgarian Woman of the Year – Saint Zlata of Meglen Award. Twenty nominations have been received from 11 countries. BTA will present the nominees in a series of articles.
