The Executive Agency for Bulgarians Abroad (EABA) presented awards to Bulgarian theater groups from abroad that took part in the 28th edition of the Velko Kanev  International Festival of Amateur Comedy Theaters, Pantomime, and Satire in Topolovgrad, the Agency said on its website.

Honorary certificates, statuettes, and materials from the Executive Agency for Bulgarians Abroad’s fund were awarded to the Temple of Melpomene drama school from Larnaca, Cyprus; Reflection theatre from Toronto, Canada; and Hristo Botev theatre from Tsaribrod, Serbia.

“We believe that theatre is a bridge between communities and an important tool for preserving language, traditions, and identity,” said the Agency’s Executive Director Rayna Mandzhukova.

The festival jury awarded the highest prize, the Golden Camel, to the actors of Reflection theatre from Toronto for their performance of the play “Always Ready.”

The special award of the Culture Ministry was presented to Hristo Botev theatre from Tsaribrod for their production“The Kiss.”

The Executive Agency for Bulgarians Abroad will continue to support initiatives that give Bulgarian communities abroad the opportunity to express their talent and strengthen cultural ties with Bulgaria, the EABA team added.
