Wine is more than a drink, it is a language of wine and hospitality, which has united people as a community, Deputy Tourism Minister Irena Georgieva said during the closing ceremony of the 9th UN Tourism Global Conference on Wine Tourism here on Tuesday. "The conference was a journey through ideas, tastes and cultures. During these two days, we discussed how to combine tradition with innovation and how to turn local identity into a global force. Our work does not end after this conference. From now on, real actions will follow that will give value to everything we discussed," Georgieva emphasized.
Among the officials attending the ceremony were Plovdiv Deputy Mayor Plamen Panov and Cordula Wohlmuther, Director of the Regional Commission for Europe at UN Tourism.
"Two days ago, you came with the hope that Plovdiv would be a good host for this important dialogue. Today, we send you off as friends and like-minded people, inspired by the shared experience and common passion for wine," Panov stated. "This conference is coming to an end, but I hope that the ideas born here, the partnerships and initiatives will continue to flourish, and the plans will become reality," he noted.
Wohlmuther announced that work is currently underway on the next edition of the UN Tourism Global Conference and its location. If everything goes well, it will not be too far from Bulgaria, she said.
The 9th UN Tourism Global Conference on Wine Tourism is themed "The Art of Wine Tourism". It takes place on October 6 and 7, and highlights the multi-faceted relationship between wine tourism and the arts, positioning both as vital tools for protecting heritage, promoting creativity and enhancing the attractiveness of rural and wine-producing destinations. Participants engage with policy makers, representatives of tourist destinations, entrepreneurs, researchers and specialists from around the world.
