The development of sports activities is a crucial and necessary element of police officer training, Interior Minister Daniel Mitov said during the 2024 awards ceremony of the Ministry of Interior’s Sports Association on Tuesday. The event recognized the top athletes, teams, and coaches within the Interior Ministry for 2024.

Mitov congratulated the attendees for their championship spirit and outstanding achievements. "Citizens want to see law enforcement officers who command respect and maintain good physical condition," he noted.

Interior Ministry’s Sports Association Chair Chavdar Atanasov emphasized that competitive sports serve as a way to develop and sustain specialized motor skills among officers. He noted that this practice has repeatedly proven its effectiveness over the years. In 2024 alone, the ministry’s sports association organized and held a total of 24 national championships and tournaments, he added.

The Interior Ministry’s ceremony concluded with the presentation of the Athlete of the Year award. Mitov handed the prize to Borislav Yanakov from the Specialized Counter Terrorism Unit and Lyubomir Kralev from the Regional Directorate for Fire Safety and Civil Protection in Targovishte.
